Car
If you're starting from the Mbabane area, head east on MR3 towards Manzini. Continue on MR3 until you reach the intersection with MR1. Turn left onto MR1 and follow the signs for Nhlangano. After approximately 50 km, you will reach Nhlangano. From Nhlangano, take the MR3 south towards the border with Mozambique. Follow the MR3 until you reach the border post at Lavumisa. Once you cross the border into Mozambique, continue south on EN1. After about 100 km, you will reach the town of Maputo. The Maputo River is located nearby, and you can follow local signs or ask for directions to reach the river from the town center.
Public Transportation
From Mbabane, you can take a minibus taxi heading to Manzini. Once in Manzini, switch to another minibus taxi that goes to Nhlangano. After reaching Nhlangano, you may need to take a taxi to get to the Lavumisa border post. After crossing into Mozambique, there are options for minibuses or shared taxis that go to Maputo. The journey may take a while, so be prepared for a full day of travel. Once in Maputo, you can ask locals for directions to the Maputo River, which is accessible from various points in the city.
Taxi
For a more comfortable and direct route, you can hire a taxi from Mbabane to Maputo. This may be more expensive, usually costing between $100 to $150 USD, but it will take you directly to your destination without the need to switch vehicles. The taxi driver will take you through the border at Lavumisa and continue to Maputo. Once in Maputo, you can ask the driver to take you to the Maputo River.
