Derg Monument: A Symbol of Remembrance in Addis Ababa

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the Mercato area, head northeast on Churchill Avenue towards the National Museum of Ethiopia. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Ras Bitwaddad Tesemma Avenue. Turn left onto Ras Bitwaddad Tesemma Avenue and walk straight. You will pass the Bole Medhane Alem Cathedral on your right. Keep walking until you reach the roundabout, then take the second exit onto Derg Monument Road. The Derg Monument will be on your left side.

• Public Transport (Minibus)

  From Arada, find a minibus heading towards Lideta. Board the minibus and request to be dropped off at the Derg Monument stop. Once you get off, walk a short distance towards the monument. It should be visible as you approach the area.

• Walking

  If you are near the Addis Ababa University, exit the campus and head southeast on A4 towards Meskel Square. At Meskel Square, take a right onto Derg Monument Road. Continue walking straight for about 15 minutes, and you will arrive at the Derg Monument on your right.

• Public Transport (Taxi)

  You can take a blue and white taxi from your location to the Derg Monument. Simply tell the driver 'Derg Monument' or show them the address. The ride should take about 10-20 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive, you can easily access the monument.
