Getting There

Walking
From the center of Awasa, head south on Abebe Bikila Road towards the Hawassa fish market. Walk for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction at the market. At the junction, you will notice signs pointing towards Hawassa Lake. Turn left onto the road that runs alongside the market and continue straight for another 1 kilometer. You will start to see the lake appearing on your right side. Follow the lakeside path, and you will arrive at Hawassa Lake in approximately 15 minutes.

Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Awasa. Start on Abebe Bikila Road heading south. Cycle for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the fish market junction. At the junction, turn left and continue cycling along that road for about 1 kilometer. Keep an eye on your right side as you approach the lake. There are a few paths that will lead you directly to the lakeside where you can enjoy the views.

Find a Bajaj (three-wheeled taxi) from anywhere in Awasa. Tell the driver 'Hawassa Lake' or point to the direction via a map or translation app if needed. The ride should take about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. The driver will drop you off near the lakeside area, from where you can easily walk to the main viewing spots of the lake.
