If you are driving to Debre Libanos Monastery, start from Addis Ababa. Take the Bole Road heading north towards the A1 highway. Follow the A1 highway for approximately 70 km (around 1.5 hours) until you reach the turn-off for Debre Libanos. Look for signs pointing to the monastery as you approach Bolo. The monastery is located at PR6X+Q2J in Bolo. There is no entrance fee, but parking facilities are available near the monastery.

Public Transportation (Bus)

To reach Debre Libanos by public transport, head to the main bus station in Addis Ababa (Meskel Square). Look for buses heading to Debre Libanos or Bolo. The bus ride takes about 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. Upon arrival in Bolo, you can take a short taxi ride (approximately 15 minutes) to the monastery. Expect to pay around 50-100 ETB for the taxi. Buses typically cost around 50-100 ETB per person.

Taxi

If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Addis Ababa to Debre Libanos. This option is more expensive, costing approximately 1,500-2,000 ETB for a one-way trip. The journey will take about 1.5 hours depending on traffic. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your trip.

Walking from Bolo

If you find yourself in Bolo after arriving by bus, you can also walk to Debre Libanos Monastery. The walk is about 5 km and will take approximately 1 hour. Head west from the bus station, following the main road towards the monastery. Look for the signs guiding you to the monastery along the way.
