Getting There

• Private Car

  From Gojjam, take the main road heading northwest towards Bahir Dar. After about 30 kilometers, you will reach the junction at Debre Markos. Continue straight towards Gondar for approximately 80 kilometers. As you approach Gondar, look for signs directing you to Simien Mountains National Park. Follow the signs to Debark, which is the main entry point to the park, located about 42 kilometers from Gondar. The total journey will take approximately 3-4 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

• Public Transportation (Minibus)

  Start your journey in Gojjam by taking a minibus to Debre Markos. Ensure that you board a minibus heading towards Gondar. The fare is typically around 30-50 Ethiopian Birr. Upon arrival at Debre Markos, switch to another minibus headed for Gondar. Once in Gondar, you can catch a minibus to Debark, which is about 42 kilometers further. The total travel time could take 5-6 hours, including waiting times and transfers.

• Taxi from Gondar

  If you prefer a more direct route after reaching Gondar, you can hire a taxi to take you to Debark, the entry point for Simien Mountains National Park. The cost for a taxi ride will be approximately 800-1000 Ethiopian Birr. The journey from Gondar to Debark takes about 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Ensure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

• Park Entry Fees

  Upon arriving at Simien Mountains National Park, be prepared to pay the entrance fee, which is approximately 150 Ethiopian Birr for foreigners. Additional fees may apply if you wish to hire a local guide or rent equipment for trekking within the park.
