Walking
Start from the center of Mekele, specifically at the main square (Meskel Square). Head south on the main road (Aksum Road) for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass several shops and cafes along the way. Continue straight until you reach the junction where the road splits. At this junction, take the right fork towards Wukro. Keep walking for another 2 kilometers until you see a sign for Wukro. After passing this sign, you will walk through a small residential area. Follow the road until you arrive in the town of Wukro, which is about 5 kilometers from Mekele. As you enter Wukro, you will see a local market on your left. Continue straight through the town; the Genfel River is located just a short distance beyond the market. Look for the turn-off that leads toward the river, which is marked by a small path leading into a green area.
Public Transport
From the center of Mekele, head to the main bus station (located near the city center). Look for a minibus heading to Wukro. The fare is quite affordable, typically around 10-20 Ethiopian Birr. The journey will take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Wukro, ask the driver or any local for directions to the Genfel River. It's a short walk from the bus stop. You will walk towards the local market, and from there, follow the small path leading to the river.
