Getting there

Car

If you are traveling by car, you can take the highway from Addis Ababa to Debre Libanos. Start on the A1 highway (also known as the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Road) heading north. After approximately 70 kilometers, take the exit towards Debre Libanos. Follow the signs, and the road will lead you directly to the monastery. The drive usually takes about 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. Ensure that your vehicle is in good condition as some parts of the road may be bumpy.

Bus

For public transportation, you can take a bus from Addis Ababa to Debre Libanos. Head to the main bus terminal in Addis Ababa and look for buses heading to Debre Libanos or nearby towns. The bus ride usually costs around 50 Ethiopian Birr and takes about 2-3 hours. Make sure to check the schedule, as buses may not run frequently. Once you arrive at the Debre Libanos bus station, you can walk or take a local taxi to the monastery, which is about 5 kilometers away.

Taxi or Bajaj

If you prefer a private ride after arriving in Debre Libanos, you can hire a taxi or a Bajaj (three-wheeled vehicle) from the bus station.
