Car
From Shewa, start your journey by heading southwest on the main road towards the town of Ambo. The distance is approximately 40 kilometers. After about 25 kilometers, you will reach the town of Shube. Continue driving until you see the sign for Wenchi Crater Lake. Turn left onto a smaller road that leads directly to the lake. Keep an eye out for local signage. Parking is available at the entrance of the park, and there might be a small entrance fee to access the lake area.
Public Transportation
To reach Wenchi Crater Lake by public transportation, find a bus or minibus heading towards Ambo from Shewa. It should take about 1-2 hours depending on traffic. Get off at the town of Shube. Once in Shube, you can either hire a local taxi or take a tuk-tuk to Wenchi Crater Lake. The distance from Shube to the lake is about 15 kilometers. Confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey. Expect to pay around 100-200 Ethiopian Birr for the taxi/tuk-tuk ride. Upon arrival, there may be a small entrance fee to the lake area.
Bicycle
For the adventurous traveler, you can cycle from Shewa to Wenchi Crater Lake. The journey is approximately 40 kilometers and includes some hilly terrain, so be prepared for a workout. Start by heading southwest towards Ambo and follow the same route as drivers. Ensure you have a reliable map or GPS to guide you. Once in Shube, follow the local roads to the lake. It's advisable to carry some water and snacks for the ride. There are no direct costs besides your bicycle rental and any entrance fees at the lake.
