Discover more about Arba Minch crocodile ranch

The Arba Minch Crocodile Ranch, established in 1984, provides a sanctuary for Nile crocodiles and a fascinating experience for visitors. Located about 7 km northeast of Arba Minch town, the ranch is home to a large population of crocodiles, ranging from hatchlings to mature adults. The ranch was initially founded to manage and conserve the Nile crocodile population in the area. It once exported crocodile leather but has since halted that operation to focus on conservation and tourism. Today, the ranch provides a protected environment where crocodiles can breed and thrive. Visitors can observe the crocodiles in enclosures designed to mimic their natural habitat. The crocodiles are grouped by age to prevent the larger ones from harming the smaller ones. The best time to visit is in the afternoon when the crocodiles come out of the pool and open their mouths to attract birds that pick worms from their mouth to have mutual benefit for both. The knowledgeable staff offers guided tours, providing insights into the life cycle, behavior, and conservation of these reptiles. The ranch is also becoming a zoo by adding more animals including python snakes and civets.
