Getting there

Car

From Addis Ababa, take the road to Debre Birhan. Continue towards Ankober, approximately 40 km east of Debre Birhan on a rough gravel road. Be prepared for a bumpy ride. Once in Ankober, follow local signs to the Menelik II Palace. Driving distance from Addis Ababa to Ankober is about 170 km and takes around 2.5 hours. Fuel costs for the trip will be approximately 600-900 ETB.

Public Transport

Take a bus or minibus from Addis Ababa (Megenagna station) to Debre Birhan. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and costs 50-60 ETB. From Debre Birhan, take another bus to Ankober for 20-25 ETB. This second bus ride takes about 2 hours on a rough road. Once in Ankober, the palace is a short walk from the town center. Expect to pay around 100 ETB in total for the journey.

Taxi

A taxi directly from Addis Ababa to Ankober takes approximately 2.5 hours. Negotiate the fare before starting the journey; expect to pay between 5,000-7,000 ETB. From the Ankober town center, local taxis or bajaj (three-wheeled vehicle) can take you to the palace for around 200-300 ETB.
