  • Public Transport

    From Addis Ababa, take a public bus from the central bus station at Mercato Manharia to Robe or Goba. Inform the driver you wish to stop in Dinsho. From the bus stop in Dinsho, walk to the park headquarters, approximately 15 minutes away. Bus tickets should be purchased the day before departure. Expect to pay a small fee for large bags.

  • Car

    From Addis Ababa, drive southeast towards Mojo, then follow the road to Ziway and Shashemene. Turn left at Shashemene towards Goba, continuing through Dodola and Adaba. The park headquarters is located approximately 1 km past Dinsho. Be aware that road conditions can be rough, especially during the wet season, and a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

Bale Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated approximately 400 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Established in 1969, the park spans over 2,200 square kilometers and encompasses a remarkable range of habitats, from lush evergreen forests and giant bamboo stands to moorlands and river valleys.The park's diverse ecosystems support a high concentration of endemic species, making it a biodiversity hotspot. The Sanetti Plateau, one of the highest in Africa, features Afro-alpine moorlands with glacial lakes and volcanic ridges. The Harenna Forest, a cloud forest in the park's southern region, is home to colobus monkeys, warthogs, and even elusive lions and leopards.The Bale Mountains are home to over 282 species of birds, including many endemic species. Mammal species include the Ethiopian wolf, Mountain Nyala, Menelik's bushbuck, and Giant forest hog. Visitors can enjoy hiking, trekking, birdwatching, and wildlife safaris. Multi-day treks offer immersive experiences, while shorter trails provide glimpses into the park's natural beauty.
