Vaglið: The Heart of Tórshavn

Vaglið serves as the vibrant heart of Tórshavn, the capital city of the Faroe Islands. This central square is more than just a meeting point; it's a place steeped in history and culture, surrounded by buildings that tell the story of the city and the nation. Dominating one side of the square is the Town Hall, an impressive structure originally built in 1894 as a school. The most significant event is Ólavsøka, the Faroese national holiday held on July 28th and 29th. The festivities begin with speeches and choir performances in the square, culminating in the traditional Faroese chain dance and midnight song on July 29th, drawing thousands of people from across the islands. Even outside of Ólavsøka, Vaglið is a lively place, where locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy the atmosphere.
