Mount Korobaba: Suva's Hiking Jewel

Mount Korobaba, located just outside of Suva, is a popular hiking destination for locals and tourists seeking stunning views and a moderately challenging trek. Rising to a height of approximately 400 meters (1,195 feet), the cone-shaped mountain offers panoramic vistas of Suva Harbour, the city, and neighboring islands. The trail to the summit meanders through a dense tropical rainforest, where hikers can immerse themselves in Fiji's rich biodiversity. The path can be steep and muddy, especially after rain, so proper hiking footwear is recommended. The hike generally takes between 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on fitness level and experience. Historically, Mount Korobaba was a tribal outpost for the Mataqali Natodre clan. Today, it stands as a testament to Fiji's natural beauty and offers a refreshing escape from the bustling city. The mountain's unique flora includes native trees, ferns, and the large purple orchid. Mahogany trees also provide ample shade along the trail. While hiking, be mindful of the environment and carry out any trash. Starting the hike early in the morning is advisable to avoid the midday heat and to fully enjoy the experience.
