Momi Bay: A Blend of History and Tranquility

Momi Bay, located on the western side of Viti Levu, Fiji, is a place where history and natural beauty converge. During World War II, Momi Bay was a strategic stronghold for Allied forces, serving as a vital point for monitoring naval activities in the Pacific. The Momi Bay Historical Park, also known as the Momi Gun Site, features gun batteries installed to protect Fiji from potential Japanese invasion. These fortifications, constructed in response to the threat of Japanese expansion, played a crucial role in safeguarding Allied sea lanes. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of this military past while enjoying the bay's stunning landscapes. The historical park offers panoramic views of the Malolo Barrier Reef and the Mamanuca Islands, overlooking the Navula passage. The guns at Momi Bay only fired twice in defense, making it a unique historical site. The site was closed in February 1944 after the Japanese forces retreated from the Pacific. Restored in 2017, the park now serves as a museum, with the original guns still in place.
