Kammiovuori: The Roof of Sysmä

Kammiovuori, rising 221 meters above sea level, is a captivating destination for nature enthusiasts and hikers. Located in Vintturi, Sysmä, it is the highest point in East Häme, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and the expansive Lake Päijänne. The area is part of the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark, showcasing Finland's ancient bedrock and unique geological history. The hiking trail, approximately 4 kilometers long, winds through diverse and challenging terrain. Along the way, hikers encounter notable sites such as the seven-meter-high Sysmän Linta boulder and Hiskia Cave, traditionally believed to be the dwelling of a hermit in the early 20th century. Information boards along the route provide insights into the area's natural features. The trail is marked with white and blue paint. Kammiovuori has long been considered a mystical place. Studies from the early 20th century mention the presence of numerous caves, some with intriguing acoustic properties. Despite its challenging landscape, Kammiovuori is a popular destination for families, with steps constructed in 2017 to ease the steeper sections.
