Discover more about Lonna Sauna

Lonna Sauna, located on the small island of Lonna, offers a unique blend of traditional Finnish sauna culture and contemporary design. Just a short waterbus ride from Helsinki's Market Square, the island provides a tranquil escape with views of both the city skyline and the open sea. Until 2016, Lonna Island was occupied by the Finnish army and has since been opened to the public. The sauna, completed in 2016, was designed by architect Anssi Lassila and is constructed with natural materials, featuring a handcrafted wooden log structure and a zinc roof. Inside, wood-burning stoves heat the two loft saunas, creating a calming atmosphere. The use of larch wood and large windows adds a contemporary touch to the traditional sauna experience. Lonna Sauna accommodates up to 12 people in each sauna, with staggered starting times. Mixed sauna days are available, with separate changing rooms for men and women, as well as a gender-neutral option. A large terrace outside the saunas offers spectacular views of the archipelago, and the sauna area is licensed to serve alcoholic beverages. Besides the sauna, Lonna Island also features a restaurant serving seasonal dishes with a modern take on traditional island cuisine, and a bar.
