Discover more about Nuuksio National Park

Nuuksio National Park, established in 1994, offers a quintessential Finnish landscape of conifer and birch forests, over 80 lakes and ponds, and rocky hills shaped by the last ice age. Located on the outskirts of Espoo, Kirkkonummi, and Vihti, it's a convenient escape from Helsinki. Nuuksio's history stretches back to the Stone Age, with evidence of human presence dating back 9,000 years. However, the area remained largely uninhabited due to its terrain, serving mainly as a hunting ground. Today, the park is a haven for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking tranquility. The park boasts over 30 kilometers of marked hiking trails, ranging in difficulty from easy strolls to challenging treks. Popular trails include the Haukankierros (Hawk Loop), Korpinkierros (Raven's Tour) and Punarinnankierros trail. Bicycling is permitted on designated routes, and in winter, cross-country skiing is a popular activity. Nuuksio is also home to diverse flora and fauna, including the Siberian flying squirrel, the park's emblem. While spotting one is difficult due to their nocturnal habits, the park offers a chance to observe various woodland birds, insects, and fungi. Visitors can also enjoy berry picking in late summer and mushroom picking in the fall. Whether you're looking for a day hike, a weekend camping trip, or simply a peaceful escape into nature, Nuuksio National Park offers a refreshing and easily accessible wilderness experience near Helsinki.
