Iso Karitunturi: The Majestic Mountain Peak of Posio

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from the main entrance of Riisitunturi National Park located on the Riisitunturi Road (Riisitunturin tie). Head southeast on Riisitunturi Road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the junction with Posio Road (Posiontie). Turn left onto Posio Road and continue for approximately 5 kilometers. Look for signs indicating the trailhead to Iso Karitunturi. Park your vehicle at the designated parking area and follow the marked hiking trail that leads you to the summit of Iso Karitunturi, which is about a 3-kilometer hike.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Iso Karitunturi using public transportation, take a bus to the town of Posio. From there, you can catch a local taxi to the Riisitunturi National Park entrance. Once you arrive at the park, you will need to hike approximately 3 kilometers to reach the summit of Iso Karitunturi. Ensure to check the local bus schedules for the latest timings and plan accordingly, as services may be limited.

• Hiking

  Once you have parked your car or arrived by taxi at the Riisitunturi National Park entrance, follow the well-marked hiking trail towards Iso Karitunturi. The trail is approximately 3 kilometers long and is moderately challenging. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water and snacks for the hike. The trail will lead you through beautiful forested areas and eventually to the summit, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
