Car
If you are driving, start in Sarasota Beaches and head south on Gulf of Mexico Drive. Continue for about 12 miles and then turn left onto Stickney Point Road. After about 2 miles, turn right onto Beneva Road. The entrance to Red Bug Slough Preserve will be on your left at 5200 S Beneva Rd, Sarasota, FL 34231. There is no entrance fee for the preserve.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take the Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus route 12 from Sarasota Beaches. Make sure to check the SCAT schedule for the latest timings. Ride the bus until you reach the stop at Beneva Road and Stickney Point Road. From there, it is a short walk (about 10 minutes) south along Beneva Road to the entrance of Red Bug Slough Preserve at 5200 S Beneva Rd, Sarasota, FL 34231. The bus fare is typically around $1.25.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous and want to bike, you can rent a bike from a local shop in Sarasota Beaches. Follow Gulf of Mexico Drive south then turn onto Stickney Point Road. Once you reach Beneva Road, continue south until you locate the entrance to Red Bug Slough Preserve at 5200 S Beneva Rd. The bike ride is about 8 miles and offers a scenic route, but be mindful of traffic and use bike lanes when available.
