To reach Longboat Key from downtown Sarasota, start by walking to the nearest bus stop on Main Street. Catch the Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus Route 4, which heads towards the St. Armands Circle. After approximately 30 minutes, disembark at the St. Armands Circle stop. From there, transfer to Route 18, which will take you directly to Longboat Key. The bus ride will take another 20 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule to plan your trip efficiently.

If you enjoy cycling, consider renting a bike from a local rental shop in Sarasota, such as Siesta Key Bike & Kayak. From there, head west on Main Street toward Bayfront Park. Follow the bike paths along the waterfront, eventually connecting to the bike lanes that lead to Lido Key. Continue cycling along the path that runs along the beach, and you will reach the northern end of Longboat Key. The ride should take around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your pace.

Once you arrive at the causeway, follow the pedestrian path across the bridge. Enjoy the scenic views as you walk approximately 1.5 miles to the bridge's end. After crossing the bridge, follow the path that leads you onto Longboat Key. It is a long walk, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The total distance is about 4 miles and will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
