Car
If you are traveling from Fort Myers, take I-75 South towards Naples. Merge onto the exit for FL-867 S (Cleveland Ave) towards the Sanibel Causeway. Follow the signs for Sanibel Island and cross the Sanibel Causeway. There is a toll of approximately $6.00 for cars (cash or card) when crossing the bridge. Once on Sanibel Island, continue straight onto Periwinkle Way. The Sanibel Lighthouse will be on your left at 112 Periwinkle Way. There is parking available nearby.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited directly to Sanibel Island. The closest major public transit is LeeTran, which services Fort Myers. From Fort Myers, take bus route 50 to the transfer point at the Fort Myers Transit Center. From there, you would need to take a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to Sanibel Island, which is about a 20-minute drive. Expect to pay around $30-$40 for the taxi or rideshare. Alternatively, consider arranging a shuttle service that can take you directly to Sanibel.
Bicycle
For those who enjoy cycling, you can rent a bike in Fort Myers and ride to the Sanibel Causeway. After crossing the causeway, follow the bike paths along Periwinkle Way. It is a scenic ride of about 15 miles from Fort Myers to the Sanibel Lighthouse, but keep in mind the weather and traffic conditions. Once on Sanibel Island, there are bike racks available at the Lighthouse for secure parking.
Walking
If you are already on Sanibel Island, walking to the Sanibel Lighthouse is a pleasant option. From the nearest accommodations or attractions, simply head towards Periwinkle Way and follow the signs towards the Lighthouse. The area is pedestrian-friendly with sidewalks and shaded paths. The Lighthouse is approximately a 1 to 2-mile walk depending on your starting point.
