Carol Morsani Hall is named after Carol Morsani, a Tampa philanthropist, along with her husband, Frank Morsani. The Straz Center opened in July 1987, originally named the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, and was renamed in 2009. Bob Martinez, former Tampa mayor and Governor, championed the center's creation, envisioning it as a catalyst for Tampa's cultural and economic revitalization.
