Discover more about Butterfly World

Butterfly World, nestled within Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, Florida, is more than just a butterfly park; it's an immersive experience that transports visitors to a world of vibrant colors, delicate wings, and captivating natural beauty. Founded by Ronald Boender, a retired electrical engineer with a lifelong passion for butterflies, Butterfly World opened its doors in 1988 and has since become the largest butterfly park in the world. Boender's journey began with raising local butterflies and their food plants at his home. Recognizing the demand for farmed butterflies from universities and zoos, he established MetaScience Co. in 1984, a commercial butterfly farm. Inspired by butterfly houses in the United Kingdom, Boender partnered with Clive Farrell, founder of the London Butterfly House, to create Butterfly World. This unique attraction combines public display with research and conservation efforts. Upon entering Butterfly World, visitors are immediately enveloped in a tropical paradise. The park boasts six free-flight aviaries, each meticulously designed to replicate the natural habitats of butterflies from different regions of the world. The Paradise Adventure Aviary features cascading fountains and serene ponds, while the Tropical Rain Forest Aviary showcases a stunning waterfall and lush vegetation. Grace Gardens, an outdoor botanical garden, displays a vibrant collection of flowering tropical plants. The aviaries are home to over 20,000 live butterflies, representing more than 50 different species. From the iridescent blue morphos of South America to the vibrant swallowtails of Asia, the diversity of butterflies on display is truly breathtaking. Visitors can stroll through the aviaries, observing these delicate creatures as they flutter among the flowers, sip nectar, and bask in the warm sunshine. Lucky visitors might even have a butterfly land on their shoulder or hand, creating a truly magical moment. Beyond the butterflies, Butterfly World also features a variety of other attractions. The Jewels of the Sky Aviary houses exotic birds, while the Lorikeet Encounter allows visitors to hand-feed colorful lorikeets. The Butterfly Museum showcases a stunning collection of preserved butterflies and moths, while the Bug Zoo offers a glimpse into the world of insects and other arthropods. Butterfly World is not only a place of beauty and wonder, but also a center for research and conservation.
