With its origins dating back to 1971 as the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, the facility has a long history of caring for Florida's native birds. Visitors can witness the dedicated work of the sanctuary's staff and volunteers at the Dr. Marie L. Farr Avian Hospital, where thousands of birds receive treatment annually. The sanctuary also serves as a permanent home for birds unable to return to the wild, offering a safe and educational environment for both the animals and the public. If driving from the north or south on Gulf Boulevard, look for the large pelican statue on the Gulf side of the road; the sanctuary is directly across from the Fifth Third Bank. Limited free parking is available on-site, but street parking is also available nearby on Sunset Boulevard, which runs parallel to the beach. Be mindful of local parking regulations. Traffic can be heavy along Gulf Boulevard, especially during peak season.

The Suncoast Beach Trolley (SCBT) provides convenient access to the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary. The trolley runs along Gulf Boulevard, and the nearest stop is Gulf Blvd + 198th Ave W, a short walk from the sanctuary. A single ride fare is $2.50, or a day pass can be purchased for $5.00. The trolley operates frequently, with service every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours.
