    The Stuart Welcome Arch, also known as the 1926 Welcome Arch or Rio-Jensen Beach Arch, is a historical landmark located in Jensen Beach, Florida. Constructed in 1926, the arch straddles County Road 707 (also known as NE Dixie Highway) and once marked the boundary between the incorporated towns of Jensen and Stuart.The arch was erected to celebrate the creation of Martin County and the opening of the Okeechobee Waterway, then called the Stuart-Ft. Myers cross-State canal. The inscription "Atlantic Gateway to the Gulf of Mexico" reflected hopes that Stuart would become a prosperous shipping port. The arch's design, in Mediterranean Revival style, was funded by the Stuart Chamber of Commerce and supported by local citizens.Over the years, the Stuart Welcome Arch has undergone several restorations due to theft, hurricane damage, and vehicular accidents. Despite these setbacks, it remains a significant landmark, added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on September 15, 2004. Today, the arch serves as a reminder of the area's rich history and welcomes visitors to explore the charming communities of Jensen Beach and Stuart.
