The Couvent des Prêcheurs is a testament to Aix-en-Provence's rich history. Founded in 1272, the Dominican convent has evolved through the centuries, witnessing significant events and adapting to changing times. The adjacent Place des Prêcheurs owes its name to the building's historical significance.Following the demolition of the Parliament Palace in 1776, the parliamentarians relocated to the Couvent des Prêcheurs until the new judicial complex was completed in 1832. This move spared the convent from revolutionary dismantling. Subsequently, the building transitioned into a center for education, serving as a normal school, primary school, conservatory, girls' school, boarding school, and finally, a college until its closure in 2015.Today, the Couvent des Prêcheurs is a cultural venue that hosts various exhibitions and events.
