Driving
From the center of Alpe d'Huez, follow the Route des Lacs north. The road is well-marked. Continue for approximately 2.5 km until you reach the parking area at Lac Besson, which serves as a primary access point for the Route des Lacs trails. Parking is available at the southern end of Lac Besson. Be aware that parking can be crowded during peak season. During the summer, parking is free.
Public Transport
During the summer season, a free shuttle bus operates from Alpe d'Huez to the Route des Lacs area. Check the local tourist office for the current schedule and stops. The bus will drop you off near Lac Besson, from where you can access the various hiking trails. The T76 bus line stops near the Route des Lacs.
Walking
If you're staying in Alpe d'Huez and prefer to walk, you can follow the GR549 trail, which runs parallel to the Route des Lacs road. The walk from the center of Alpe d'Huez to Lac Besson is approximately 3-4 km and takes about 1-1.5 hours. Be prepared for a steady uphill climb.
