Discover more about Clos Alexandre

Tucked away on the southwestern edge of Amiens, not far from the university campus, lies Clos Alexandre, a delightful private garden that welcomes visitors during the warmer months and for special cultural events. This hidden gem, spanning approximately 5,000 square meters, offers a serene escape from the city bustle. Originally established in 1932 as a kitchen garden by Alexandre Lemaître, the space provided fresh produce for the family for many years. After falling into disuse, it was lovingly revived in 1992 by Alexandre's son, Jean Lemaître, and his sister Nicole. Their redesign embraced the theme of the 'man-gardener,' resulting in a series of distinct garden 'rooms'. Visitors can wander through a water garden, a labyrinth of apple trees, a medieval-inspired cloister garden, a traditional vegetable patch, a romantic garden, a garden showcasing potted plants, a small wooded area, and a garden designed with forced perspective. The garden boasts a collection of over 250 plant species and more than 1,500 varieties, including clematis, Japanese maples and viburnum. While the garden was previously recognized as a 'Jardin Remarquable' (Remarkable Garden), it is no longer on the list. Today, Clos Alexandre provides a tranquil atmosphere where visitors can relax, unwind, and appreciate the beauty of nature.
