Discover more about Hotel de Berny Museum

The Musée de l'Hôtel de Berny, also known as the Museum of Local Art and Regional History, is a treasure trove of Picardy's cultural heritage. The museum is located in a majestic Louis XIII-style mansion built between 1633 and 1634 for the Treasurers of France in Picardy. In 1957, Gérard de Berny, a former senator of the Somme, bequeathed his private mansion and its extensive collection to the city of Amiens with the vision of creating a museum dedicated to the art and history of Picardy. The mansion was remodeled in the 19th century by the Marquis de Landreville, incorporating intricate sculptures and lavish interior decorations. The museum's collections include 17th-century tapestries, 18th-century woodwork, Louis XV and Louis XVI furniture, ceramics from Montières, paintings, pastels, and ironwork. The gardens, designed by Gérard de Berny, feature a Japanese garden, a French formal garden, a romantic cloister garden, and a Moorish garden. The museum also houses memorabilia related to notable figures such as Jules Verne and Marshal Leclerc. Currently closed for renovations, the Musée de l'Hôtel de Berny remains a symbol of regional pride and historical intrigue, eagerly awaiting its reopening to share its treasures with visitors once more.
