Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Walking
The Vieille Ville is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from most parts of Annecy. From the Annecy train station, it's approximately a 10-15 minute walk. Head straight from the station towards the Thiou river, cross one of the bridges, and you'll find yourself in the heart of the Old Town. Orientation is easy due to the presence of the Thiou river and the Palais de l'Île.
Public Transport
Several bus lines serve the Vieille Ville area. The closest bus stops are Sommeiller and Paul Grimault, both just a 2-minute walk from the Old Town. A single bus fare costs approximately €1.60. Check the SIBRA website or app for the most up-to-date schedules and routes.
Taxi/Ride-Share
Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available in Annecy. A short taxi ride from the train station or other parts of the city to the Vieille Ville will typically cost between €10-€15. Note that traffic can be heavy during peak season, potentially increasing fares.
Driving
Driving directly into the Vieille Ville is not recommended due to narrow streets and limited parking. Several parking garages are located within a short walking distance, including Parking Bonlieu and Parking Château. Parking fees typically range from €2-€3 per hour, with daily rates around €20-€25. Consider parking further out and walking or taking public transport to avoid congestion and higher parking costs.
