Rising 30 meters high and 12 meters wide, the Honor Tower (Tour de l'Honneur) stands as a proud reminder of Lesparre-Médoc's strategic importance in medieval times. Built in the early 14th century, the tower is the only surviving part of the Château de Lesparre, a castle that once played a pivotal role in the defense of the Médoc and the Gironde Estuary.Over the centuries, the castle was home to powerful local figures and even hosted famous Occitan-speaking troubadours. It witnessed periods of British rule and was later owned by prominent French families. However, during the French Revolution, the castle was sold as state property and largely dismantled, leaving only the Honor Tower standing.Today, the tower houses a museum spread across five levels, each offering a thematic exhibition on the history of the Médoc.
