Discover more about Termes-d'Armagnac Tower

Rising majestically from the Gascon countryside, the Termes-d'Armagnac Tower is a testament to medieval military architecture. Built in the 13th century, the tower is the remaining vestige of a vast palace that once belonged to the Counts of Armagnac. It was strategically constructed on the border of the County of Armagnac to assert power and protect against rival territories. The tower itself is a square keep, standing 36 meters high. Originally, a main building with four levels adjoined the tower, serving as the residence for the lords of Armagnac-Termes. While the main building no longer stands, the tower has been carefully restored and now houses a museum. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits detailing medieval life in Gascony, including reconstructions of historical scenes, an arms room, and displays on local traditions. Thibault de Termes, a companion-in-arms of Joan of Arc, is the most famous person to have lived at the castle. The tower offers exceptional views of the Adour valley and the Pyrenees from its summit. The surrounding area hosts various summer activities, including medieval festivals with theatrical visits, chivalry tournaments, and banquets. The tower has been listed as a historic monument since 1962.
