Discover more about Château Beauregard

Château Beauregard, a distinguished Bordeaux wine estate in the Pomerol appellation, invites visitors to immerse themselves in centuries of winemaking tradition. The estate's history stretches back to the 11th century when the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem established a presence in the area. The iconic Knights Templar cross, now an emblem of Beauregard, serves as a reminder of this heritage. Five centuries later, the Beauregard family constructed the first house on the property. During the Napoleonic era, this was replaced by the present château, a magnificent Gironde chartreuse designed by a student of Victor Louis, the architect behind Bordeaux's Grand Théâtre. The residence, with its two dovecotes overlooking a moat and beautiful grounds, inspired the Guggenheim family to build a replica at Port Washington on Long Island, naming it “Mille-Fleurs.” In the mid-18th century, Beauregard transitioned from a mixed farming estate to a dedicated vine-growing property. Successive owners contributed to its development, elevating its status among Pomerol's finest wines. In 2014, the estate was acquired by a partnership between the Moulin family, owners of Galeries Lafayette, and the Cathiard family, owners of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, marking a new chapter in its history. This partnership underscores a commitment to producing exceptional Pomerol wines while honoring the estate's legacy. The 17.5-hectare vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with vines averaging 35 years old. Château Beauregard practices organic farming, certified by ECOCERT, ensuring responsible agriculture. The grapes are harvested manually in small containers to preserve their integrity. Techniques such as “works in green” are employed to enhance grape ripening and concentration of aromas and tannins. The winemaking process combines tradition and innovation. Grapes undergo high-frequency de-stemming and laser optical sorting. Vinification occurs in temperature-controlled concrete vats, tailored to the size of each plot. The wine is aged in barrels from five different coopers to add complexity. The result is a wine characterized by silky tannins, aromatic complexity, and the expression of Pomerol's terroir. Visitors are welcomed to explore Château Beauregard through various tour and tasting experiences. The basic visit includes the history of the vineyard and appellation, a tour of the 18th-century chartreuse, and insights into the soil and vines. Guests can also view the concrete vats and barrel cellars, concluding with a tasting of two Château Beauregard wines. For a more immersive experience, the prestige visit offers a tasting of four Château Beauregard vintages, providing a unique journey through time. Two new reception areas have been created to welcome customers. Château Beauregard is located on the Catusseau plateau, near Saint-Émilion, in a region known for producing prestigious wines such as Cheval Blanc and Pétrus. The estate's location and commitment to quality contribute to its reputation as a leading Pomerol producer. The moat surrounding the property is adorned with lotus flowers and water lilies, creating a serene and picturesque setting for wine tasting. An historic part of the Chateau from this period remains with a stone bridge over a moat and a historic crusader cross in the garden. The 19th-century chartreuse has been refurbished and now includes 5 luxury bedrooms which are rented out to visitors. A new vat room was built beside the existing barrel cellar. Château Beauregard offers a blend of history, elegance, and exceptional wines. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or a curious traveler, a visit to this Pomerol estate promises an enriching and memorable experience. The estate's dedication to organic farming, combined with its warm hospitality, makes it a standout destination in the Bordeaux region.
