Discover more about Distillery G. MICLO

Distillerie G. Miclo, a family-run establishment in Lapoutroie, Alsace, has been crafting exceptional spirits since 1962. Founded by Gilbert Miclo, a wine merchant with a passion for fruit, the distillery has become renowned for its dedication to quality and its embodiment of Alsatian distilling traditions. The distillery's story is deeply rooted in the region's history and abundance of fruit orchards. Gilbert Miclo, driven by a desire to create eaux-de-vie of unparalleled aromatic intensity, established the distillery with two stills in his family home. His commitment to quality quickly earned the trust of locals and visitors alike. In 1970, as demand grew, Miclo transitioned from beverage distribution to focus solely on distillation, establishing the "SA Distillerie G. Miclo." Over the years, Distillerie G. Miclo has expanded its production and gained international recognition. In 1982, a unique opportunity arose when the Tahiti-Moorea fruit juice cooperative sought a distilling partner to create eaux-de-vie from exotic fruits. Gilbert's son, Michel, took on the challenge, establishing a new venture on the island. Simultaneously, the family began exporting its products, reaching markets in England, Belgium, Germany, and Japan. To meet increasing demand, a modern distillery was constructed in 1976, equipped with four stills, thirty fermentation and aging tanks, and ample storage and office space. This new facility, located just outside Lapoutroie along the Colmar-Paris route, was inaugurated in 1978. During this period, Gilbert's four children joined the family business, ensuring its continued success. Today, Distillerie G. Miclo continues to uphold its commitment to quality and innovation. The distillery sources the finest fruits from orchards across France, ensuring consistent quality and flavor. The Miclo family's third generation joined the company in 2009, with the goal of expanding the reach and influence of G. Miclo products. The distillery has also diversified its offerings, producing Alsatian whisky and gin, which have gained recognition for their quality and originality. Visitors to Distillerie G. Miclo can immerse themselves in the world of Alsatian spirits through guided tours. These tours provide insights into the distillery's history, the distillation process, and the art of barrel aging. Guests can witness firsthand the techniques used to create eaux-de-vie, liqueurs, and whiskies, from the still room to the aging cellars. The tours often include a walk through the educational garden (available May-September), where visitors can see the fruits and berries used in the distillation process. The experience culminates in a tasting session, where visitors can sample Miclo's emblematic products, such as L'Amer bière, wild alisier eau-de-vie, and Alsatian whiskies. These tastings offer a sensory exploration of the region's flavors and traditions. Distillerie G. Miclo's dedication to quality has earned numerous awards at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris, solidifying its reputation as a leading producer of Alsatian spirits. The distillery's products can be found in Michelin-starred restaurants and prestigious wine shops, a testament to their exceptional quality and flavor. Whether you're a seasoned spirits connoisseur or simply curious about Alsatian traditions, a visit to Distillerie G. Miclo promises an enriching and flavorful experience.
