Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start by navigating to Besançon, the capital city of Franche-Comté. From the city center, head towards Rue de la République (D673). Follow the signs for 'Bastion de Chamars' and 'Citadelle de Besançon'. Once you reach the junction with Rue des Arènes, turn left onto Rue des Arènes. Continue straight until you see Chamars Bastion on your right. There is limited street parking available nearby, but be prepared to walk a short distance to the bastion.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a regional train (TER) to Besançon. The main train station is 'Gare Viotte'. From the station, you can catch tram line 1 in the direction of 'Micropolis'. Get off at the 'Bastion' stop. From there, it’s a short walk (approximately 5 minutes) to Chamars Bastion. Follow the signs towards 'Chamars' and enjoy the scenic views as you approach the site. Tram tickets cost around €1.50 each way.

  If you are already in the vicinity of Chamars Bastion, the best way to get there is by walking. From the city center, head towards the Doubs River and follow the riverside path. This scenic route will take you directly to Chamars Bastion, allowing you to enjoy beautiful views of the river and the surrounding landscape. The walk from the city center to the bastion takes about 15-20 minutes.

  For a more active approach, consider renting a bicycle. Various bike rental services are available in Besançon. Follow the designated bike paths along the Doubs River towards Chamars Bastion. The ride is approximately 3 kilometers and offers a pleasant experience as you cycle through the parklands. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local traffic rules.
