Discover more about Paris Montparnasse – Top of the city

Completed in 1973, the Montparnasse Tower stands as a modern counterpoint to Paris's traditional skyline. For urban planning reasons, the tower was constructed directly above a Metro line, requiring a reinforced concrete shell to protect the underground infrastructure. The tower's foundations extend 70 meters underground, making them among the deepest in Europe. Rising to 210 meters (689 feet), the tower was the tallest skyscraper in France until 2011. A high-speed elevator whisks visitors to the 56th floor in just 38 seconds. Here, an indoor panorama provides breathtaking views of the city, including the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur, and Les Invalides. Multimedia exhibits enhance the experience. For an even more spectacular perspective, climb the stairs to the open-air terrace on the 59th floor. While the tower's architecture has been a point of debate, its observation deck attracts approximately 1.2 million visitors annually. The tower is open daily, with extended hours on weekends and during peak season.
