Discover more about Château de l'Engarran

Nestled on the outskirts of Montpellier in Lavérune, Château de l'Engarran presents a captivating blend of history, architecture, and winemaking tradition. This 18th-century Montpellier folly, built around 1750 on the site of a 1632 house, stands as a testament to the region's rich heritage. The Château, with its French-style garden, has been owned by the same family for five generations and is part of the Engarran domain in the AOC Coteaux du Languedoc. Founded in 1632 by Henri D'Engarran, the estate began with a modest house and nine hectares of vineyards. In 1722, Jean Vassal, a treasurer advisor, and his wife expanded the estate, constructing the current Château and increasing the vineyard area. Today, the estate spans approximately 60 hectares. The south facade of the Château features two powerful Atlases adorned with vine vines, symbolizing the property's wine production. On the pediment above the door, a group of three cherubs surrounded by roses symbolize love, festivities, and Bacchanalia. Visitors can explore the French gardens and Château through guided tours, followed by wine tastings. The estate also houses a wine museum in a vaulted room beside the tasting cellar, showcasing tools and machines used in winemaking. Château de l'Engarran has prioritized sustainable agriculture for over 15 years, adhering to the Terra Vitis label.
