Place de la République stands as the vibrant heart of Arles, shaped by progressive architectural and urban developments over centuries. Situated south of the ancient Roman forum, it began as a narrow space between the Église Saint-Trophime and Église Sainte-Anne in the Middle Ages. The Roman obelisk, dating back to the 4th century, originally stood in the Roman circus and was moved to its current location in 1676.
