After the French Revolution, the church was abandoned, and in the early 19th century, the space was transformed into a botanical garden by Esprit Requien, a local botanist. However, the garden lost half its area in the mid-1800s with the construction of Cours Jean Jaurès.In 1990-91, landscape architects Sébastien Giorgis, Patrice Pierron, and Jean-Louis Knidel redesigned the square, incorporating remnants of the Gothic cloister with water features and flowerbeds.
