Discover more about Caves Quéroy

Venture into the heart of the French countryside and discover the captivating Caves Quéroy, located in the picturesque area of Chazelles. These caves, sculpted by underground water over millennia, offer a unique glimpse into a hidden world of geological wonders. Discovered in 1892, the caves feature approximately thirty chambers and numerous corridors adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, concretions, and draperies. Archaeological remains found within the caves suggest prehistoric humans inhabited them, with artifacts now displayed in the Angoulême Museum. The caves were initially named Grottes de Barouty after their discovery by Lise Bosnot's dog, Pastille, who chased a fox into the entrance. Today, visitors can embark on guided tours, available in both English and French, to learn about the cave's geological formations and history. The 800-meter tour takes you through 30 chambers, showcasing the cave's stunning speleothems. The site also includes an animal park, adding an extra layer of interest for families. While the site may show signs of its last renovation in the 1960s, the well-maintained concrete trails and electric lighting ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
