Car
If you are traveling by car, make your way to Saint-Clément-des-Baleines. From La Rochelle, take the D137 road towards Île de Ré. Continue on the D137 until you reach the bridge to Île de Ré. Once you cross the bridge, follow the signs for Saint-Clément-des-Baleines. Upon entering the town, follow the signs for Phare des Baleines. The lighthouse is located at 155 Allée du Phare, 17590 Saint-Clément-des-Baleines. There is parking available near the lighthouse, but be aware that it may incur a small fee during peak tourist season.
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, take a train to La Rochelle. From La Rochelle, navigate to the bus station and take the bus line 'Les Mouettes' that goes to Île de Ré. Get off at the 'Saint-Clément-des-Baleines' stop. From there, it's about a 20-minute walk to the Phare des Baleines. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may vary, especially on weekends. A single bus fare will generally cost around €2.50.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, consider cycling from La Rochelle to Phare des Baleines. You can rent a bicycle in La Rochelle and take the dedicated bike paths to Île de Ré. The ride is scenic and will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Upon reaching Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, follow the signs to the lighthouse. There are bike racks available near the lighthouse for parking.
Walking
If you're already on Île de Ré, you can walk to Phare des Baleines. The lighthouse is well-signposted and offers beautiful views along the way. Walking from the center of Saint-Clément-des-Baleines to the lighthouse will take approximately 20 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially on warm days.
