Situated at the highest point of the town, the site was originally an oppidum for the Sogiontes and later a castle for the Counts of Forcalquier and Provence. Today, the citadel is home to the Notre-Dame de Provence chapel, built in a Neo-Byzantine style between 1868 and 1875, and a carillon. Visitors can explore the remains of the ancient fortress while enjoying views of the Montagne de Lure to the north, the Luberon massif to the south, the Durance valley, and the Valensole plateau. The chapel's architecture, featuring musician angels and a dome with the Virgin Mary, is a highlight. The carillon, played using a traditional 'coup de poing' method, is one of the few manual carillons in Provence. It chimes every Sunday at 11:30 AM, on market Mondays, and during major religious festivals. The site is freely accessible year-round. While the chapel's interior is viewable through a glass door, visits inside require prior arrangement.
