Papillons Garden: A Butterfly Haven in Digne-les-Bains

Nestled in Digne-les-Bains, the Papillons Garden (Jardin des Papillons) offers a unique and enchanting experience for nature enthusiasts of all ages. As France's first butterfly garden dedicated to local species, it showcases the captivating world of butterflies and the native flora of the Provence region. Created by the Proserpine association in 1999, the garden is home to over 140 species of butterflies that can be observed in their natural habitat. Recent renovations, with an investment of €20,000, have enhanced the visitor experience. The garden features local plants that attract and support the butterfly population. Visitors can explore the garden freely or join guided tours available from Monday to Friday at 10:30 AM. The garden is part of the Musée Promenade, a museum and outdoor park that explores the region's geology and natural history. The Musée Promenade receives around 20,000 visitors between April and Toussaint (All Saints' Day). In 2025, the garden has seen a doubling of visitors since reopening on April 1st. The Papillons Garden provides a serene and educational experience, allowing visitors to witness the beauty and diversity of local butterflies while learning about their importance in the ecosystem.
