Discover more about Point Sublime

Point Sublime, aptly named, is one of the most famous and breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the Gorges du Verdon. Located on the right bank of the Verdon, just below the village of Rougon, it provides an iconic panorama of the entrance to the Grand Canyon of the Verdon. From this vantage, visitors are treated to a spectacular view of the Samson Corridor, the dramatic gateway to the Grand Canyon, where the Verdon River begins its journey through the towering cliffs. To the left stands the imposing Wall of the Duke, and to the right, the cliffs of Escalès, their heights reaching nearly 400 meters. The emerald waters of the Verdon snake through the canyon below, completing this awe-inspiring scene. Point Sublime is not only a feast for the eyes but also a place steeped in legend. According to local lore, the canyon was created by Samson, who cleaved the mountain in two to rescue Dalila, who was trapped in Rougon. The entrance to the Samson corridor is said to be guarded by a human-like form in the rock face, reminiscent of the biblical Samson. For hikers, Point Sublime marks the end (or beginning) of the famous Sentier Blanc-Martel, a 15-kilometer trail that winds through the heart of the canyon from Chalet de la Maline. The village of Rougon itself, an ancient medieval settlement, is worth exploring, offering glimpses into the region's rich history and culture.
