Discover more about Parc de Champagne

Parc de Champagne, formerly known as Parc Pommery, is a vast green space in Reims, created in 1909 by Marquis Melchior de Polignac for the well-being of his Champagne house employees. Designed by Reims-born landscape architect Édouard Redont, the park combines landscaped gardens with sports and leisure facilities. Initially a recreational area for Pommery staff, the park became a training ground for athletes in 1913, under the guidance of Georges Hébert, pioneering the 'natural method' of physical education. The park suffered destruction during World War I but was restored in 1922, resuming its role as a recreational and sports venue. Today, the Parc de Champagne features a diverse collection of trees, sports facilities, and monuments. Key features include the Monument to the Heroes of the Black Army, a tribute to African colonial troops who served in the French army during World War I, and monuments to Georges Hébert and local sports clubs. The park also provides areas for various activities such as basketball, beach soccer, and pétanque. Visitors can explore the park's history and natural beauty through self-guided tours and themed trails. The park hosts various cultural and sports events throughout the year, including concerts and exhibitions. It's a popular spot for families, nature lovers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat.
