Discover more about Parc de Champagne

Parc de Champagne, located in Reims, is a 21.6-hectare park with a fascinating history. Opened in 1910, it was commissioned by Marquis Melchior de Polignac, head of the Pommery Champagne House, as a recreational space for his employees. The park was designed by Reims-born landscape architect Edouard Redont, who combined a landscaped park with sports and outdoor leisure activities. In its early years, the park hosted major events and even became the site of France's first Sports College in 1913, where renowned athletes like Jean Bouin trained. Georges Hébert, a proponent of the "natural method" of physical education, also established his training center here. Unfortunately, the park was destroyed during World War I but was restored in 1922, resuming its role as a recreational and sporting venue. Today, the Parc de Champagne offers a variety of activities and attractions. Visitors can explore the park's gardens, admire its collection of trees, and enjoy sports facilities like basketball and beach volleyball areas. The park also features monuments such as the Monument to the Heroes of the Black Army, commemorating the African colonial troops who served in the French army during World War I, and a monument to Georges Hébert. The park is open daily and offers free admission. It's a popular spot for families, dog walkers, and anyone seeking a relaxing escape in the heart of Reims.
