Plage Verger: A Coastal Haven in Cancale

Plage Verger, located near Cancale in Brittany, is a 2-kilometer-long sandy beach prized for its natural setting and tranquil atmosphere. Sheltered from westerly winds by rocky headlands, the beach is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and various water activities. The clear, shallow waters make it ideal for families, and a lifeguard station operates during the summer. The beach is backed by a lagoon and dunes, creating a rich ecosystem with diverse flora and fauna. Coastal trails offer scenic views and opportunities for birdwatching. The Anse du Verger, a protected natural area, showcases a variety of plant species, including sea daffodils and sea bindweed. Historically, the dune system at Plage Verger was much more extensive. Sand extraction, particularly during the construction of the Rance tidal barrage in the 1960s, led to its reduction. Today, conservation efforts are in place to preserve the remaining dune habitat. The Chapelle du Verger, a small chapel near the beach, adds a historical dimension to the site, providing a place for reflection and a connection to the area's maritime past. Plage Verger is also known for a naturist area located to the right of the main beach, near Pointe de la Moulière.
