Discover more about La croix de Paulhe

La Croix de Paulhe, a landmark overlooking the village of Paulhe and the Tarn valley, offers visitors a scenic viewpoint with a touch of history. The current cement cross, standing since 1981, replaced a 15-meter tall wooden cross erected in the late 19th century by Father Charles Barascud, a priest from Paulhe. This original cross, once the tallest in Causse Noir, was toppled by a storm in November 1899. For over 80 years, the base remained empty until Louis Pailhas, a Paulhe native, funded the construction of the current cross in 1981. Today, the site includes a viewing table installed in 2018, offering panoramic views of the Millau Viaduct and the Château de Peyrelade. The site is easily accessible and provides a rewarding experience for those seeking natural beauty and stunning vistas. Hiking trails around the area provide opportunities for exploration, with moderate challenges and breathtaking views. The landmark is a testament to the local community's spirit and offers a peaceful escape with historical and scenic value.
