Walking
From the Pierre Giret parking area, begin by walking along the paved road for approximately 100 meters. After crossing the Savonne bridge, take the path ascending to the left along the stream. Continue for about 15 minutes, then turn right onto the Sassière path. Follow the pastoral road of la Sassière until you reach the plateau. Proceed across the plateau for several hundred meters until you see the Refuge du Ruitor. From there, the path to Lac Longet is visible. This final approach involves some rocky terrain and small stream crossings. Allow approximately 3-4 hours for the round trip hike to Lac Longet.
Public Transport
To reach the Pierre Giret parking area using public transport, take a train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice. From there, local buses or taxis can take you to Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise. Check local schedules for the bus route that goes towards La Masure, Le Miroir, and Le Crot, and get off at a stop closest to the Pierre Giret parking area. From there, follow the walking directions to Lac Longet. Bus fares from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise typically cost around €5-€10. A taxi may cost €30-€50.
