    Discover more about Hôtel Hérouet

Hôtel Hérouet, nestled in the historic Marais district of Paris, stands as a testament to the city's rich architectural heritage. Located at 54 Rue Vieille du Temple, its distinctive corner turret marks it as a unique landmark. Constructed in the early 16th century for Jean Hérouet, a treasurer of France under Louis XII, the building showcases a transition from the Flamboyant Gothic style to early Renaissance influences. Originally, the building's facades were adorned with red and black brickwork in a diamond pattern, with stone accents highlighting the base, window frames, and mullioned windows. The corner turret, supported by a corbel, is embellished with Flamboyant Gothic carvings. Over the centuries, Hôtel Hérouet has passed through various owners, including Marie Malingre, the widow of Jean Hérouet, and later the family of Chailly. In 1908, thanks to its owner, the scholar Henri d'Allemagne, the Hôtel Hérouet was listed as a historic monument. Severely damaged by a bombing raid in 1944, it was largely rebuilt in the 1970s, with the exception of its iconic turret. Today, Hôtel Hérouet remains a captivating landmark, drawing visitors to admire its architecture and learn about its place in Parisian history.
